Commuter Service Programs
- Guaranteed Ride Home Program: Allows all employees that take the bus, subway, commuter rail, boat, carpool, vanpool, bike or walk to work to receive a Guaranteed Ride Home in the event of an emergency or unscheduled overtime. This program helps ease the fears of many employees who may be hesitant to use an alternative mode on a regular basis because of something that may happen, one or two times per year.
- Area-Wide Ridematching: ABC TMA uses VivaCommute an online ridematching system to match member employees with other employees commuting into Boston who are interested in sharing a ride in a carpool or vanpool.
- Vanpool Seat Subsidy Program: New vanpool riders may receive a subsidy of $220 over six-months.
- Bicycle and Pedestrian Incentive Program: "Work out to Work" is ABC TMA’s program providing incentives and safety training to employee who bike or walk to work. Employees receive a logbook to keep track of their miles each month in the program. The goal of this program is to encourage those employees who are able to bike/walk to work or transit to do so by rewarding them for their efforts.
- Carpool Subsidy Program: "Fill ‘er Up", is ABC TMA’s program providing assistance to carpools by covering the cost of fuel for six months. This program provides an incentive to individuals who have not been able to take advantage of existing employer based vanpool or transit pass subsidies. Participants in the program receive a fuel card, which allows them to purchase up to $35 in gas each month.
- Express Bus and Commuter Boat Subsidy Program: This program subsidizes the cost of monthly fares for employees switching to express buses and commuter boats. Participants will receive uto $100/month for three months to use these services.

Employer Services
- Employee Transportation Coordinator Training: Train member personal on how to provide commuter assistance at the work site.
- Quarterly Materials Packet: Each quarter the ABC TMA sends members a packet of transportation related materials including: promotional posters and flyers, brochures, press releases, sample emails, ABC TMA special event and program information, transit schedules, and other pertinent transportation information.
- Quarterly Member Report: Each quarter the ABC TMA compiles a report on the activities and participation of each individual member. The reports also track each member’s employee’s participation in ABC TMA programs, providing information on employee registration, usage, costs, and environmental benefits. This information may be used when filing the Massachusetts DEP Ridesharing Report.
- Best Workplaces for Commuters: A business/government partnership, the Best Workplaces for Commuters program is dramatically improving the way people get to and from work. Sponsored by the EPA and DOT the ABC TMA assists its members in becoming listed as one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters. As a Best Workplaces for Commuters Employer you will receive technical assistance, public recognition and promotion, training, Web-based tools, and forums for information exchange.
- ABC TMA Website: All employees of TMA members have access to the ABC TMA website at www.abctma.com. The web site enables employees to register for all ABC TMA programs online, includes news and updates on special events and programs. The web site also provides links to other useful transportation information.

- Transportation Awareness Events: Schedule, plan and host events at member sites to promote commuting alternatives. The ABC TMA invites representatives from the MBTA, VPSI, Mass Turnpike Authority, Mass Bike, TransitWorks, and other public and private organizations to attend events.
- Commuter Contests: Each year the ABC TMA sponsors special events like the Bike Week Commuter Challenge to encourage employees to try out new ways to commute into work.
- Construction and Transit Advisories: The ABC TMA provides regular updates on various construction projects and traffic conditions affecting commuter in the Boston area. Members may register to receive automatic electronic notification through our online email registration.
- Informational Kiosks/Brochure Racks: Install kiosks and brochure racks at member sites and supply them with materials relating to all commuting alternatives to display for their employees.
- Improved Transit Service: ABC TMA works with the MBTA to improve overall performance and service quality of the MBTA. Work with ABC TMA members and other interested parties through TransitWorks to move a portion of current demand to off peak hours.
- Park and Ride Facilities: Advocate for additional facilities at MBTA stations; promote highway facilities, which promote ridesharing.
- Preferential Carpool and Vanpool Parking: Work with building managers and parking operators to secure spaces, and to market these spaces to employees/tenants. The ABC TMA also provides customized signage to members.
- Vanpool Boarding Areas: Work with Boston Transportation Department to secure additional loading areas or to temporarily relocate areas that have been lost due to construction, etc., and to market these areas to employees/tenants.
- HOV Lanes: Promote use of existing HOV lanes to enhance ridesharing.

Planning and Consulting
- Shuttle System Consolidation: Work with members to analyze overlap in service and the potential for consolidation.
- DEP Rideshare Regulation Reporting: Assist members in developing a survey and to plan for compliance. Provide members with data on employee participation in ABC TMA programs.
- Transportation Access Plan Agreements: As a member your company will be in compliance (if applicable) with requirements set forth by the City of Boston’s Transportation Access Plan Agreements (TAPA), which outline specific Transportation Demand Management programs that must be made available to employees and/or tenants.
- Flextime/Variable Work Hours: Assist member companies in developing and implementing a policy.
- Telecommuting: Work with members to determine viability of telecommuting and establish policies and practices.
- Employee Transportation Survey: Conduct random sample transportation surveys for each member to determine success of TMA programs and customize employer specific programs.
- Commuter Mobility Work Plan: Assist members in assessing current transportation needs and creating recommendations.
- CA/T Mitigation: Work with CA/T project officials to keep members informed of the impacts of construction and to develop and seek implementation of strategies which assist in mitigating construction disruptions.
